A Word From Our Principal
Dear Scott Lake Elementary Families,
Welcome to the 2019 – 2020 school year. Our motto for the year is, “We must take ADVENTURES in order to know where we truly belong. Scott Lake Elementary is where your adventure begins.” This is certainly going to be a year filled with immeasurable learning, newfound friendships, a lifetime of memories and many new and exciting adventures.
Before we begin with the new year, let me CONGRATULATE each and every student and staff member for a job well done. In case you have not heard, we once again maintained our school grade of a B. I could not be more proud of the hard work and dedication made by all…this includes parents as well. It is truly an honor to be part of such a wonderful team of passionate educators, enthusiastic learners and devoted parents. With adventures in store, this is going to be the year…the year we grow and make our great school even better!!!
As the demands and complexities of teaching continue to increase, it becomes more evident that student success is attributed to the partnership and relationships we build within our community. At SLE, we believe ALL of US – the school and the community – must work together to ensure success for all students. It is our responsibility to invest in our students and empower them with the intellectual and decision-making skills necessary to become academically, socially, and emotionally successful.
Keeping that in mind, there is always an open invitation for you to be an active participant at Scott Lake Elementary School. Whether you are a classroom volunteer, a member of PTO, a mentor, or simply a field trip chaperone, you are encouraged to be involved! All volunteers must be approved by PCPS and can easily do so by completing the application form @ https://polkschoolsfl.com/getinvolved/ and submitting your online payment of $25.00.
As for student placement, I would like to assure you that many hours and a great deal of effort and thought went into the process. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level. All teachers and staff at SLE are loving, dedicated, and well trained to ensure engaging, meaningful, and rigorous lessons within each class. Thank you in advance for understanding that it can take a few weeks for a child to acclimate to a new grade, peer group and/or teacher.
In keeping you informed of what is taking place at SLE, all materials will be sent home though the new weekly ‘Tuesday Communicator Folder.’ This folder will be sent home each Tuesday and will contain student work as well as any up-to-date information from the teacher, school, PTO or community. You may also find pertinent information in our monthly newsletter, on our website @ http://scottlake.polk-fl.net/, Facebook page @ ScottLakeElementarySchool, and/or through your child’s daily agenda. If you have questions or concerns that arise at any time, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or myself @ 863-648-3520.
Thank you for your continued support…I look forward to seeing you soon!
Tangie Durham, Principal
