Dear Scott Lake Families,

WELCOME BACK!  It is my pleasure to once again WELCOME all students and staff back on campus for the 2021-2022 school year.  Our theme for the year is, “Back on Course…Smooth Sailing Ahead!”  Considering the stormy period that just relented, this seemed like the perfect theme to set us off on a voyage to achieving the goals and high expectations that we have for the year ahead!

Prior to the pandemic, one of SLE’s main goals was to ensure academic achievement and social/emotional development.  As we move into our new school year, these remain at the forefront of our work. We are aware that this past year has been one of many differences and changes in all of our lives. While we continue to practice flexibility and grace for one another, we will prioritize creating a safe environment for every student so each one can learn and achieve to the best of their ability.

Once again, I am honored to be part of a school family and community where parents, teachers, and students care for each other and strive to build positive relationships that support academic and social support. Here at SLE, we are truly a FAMILY!  Thank you for your patience as we determine the many aspects of all students returning to campus learning.  Although the information below may not answer all of your questions, hopefully it will remedy any stress or worries you have as we enter back into chartered waters.

Scott Lake Elementary’s 2021-2022 Beginning of School Overview

In an effort to keep your family fully informed of procedures and protocols for the upcoming school year, I have included the approved district guidelines below.  Please continue to frequently check emails, school-based websites, social media platforms, school Dojo, your child’s daily agenda, and Tuesday Communicator for school specific information as it is updated frequently.

 

 

It is also imperative that you update phone numbers and email addresses via the office and/or your child’s teacher when a change is necessary.

· Friday, August 6, 2021

·  In order to socially distance, we will be dividing students by the first letter of their last name and will only allow two adults per family to attend.  Please see below to ensure you and your student(s) attend the correct in person orientation.  In the event you have students with different last names, choose one time to attend with all of your students.

8:00 – 9:00      Last name A – F

9:15 – 10:15     Last name G – O

10:30 – 11:30   Last name P – Z

Please adhere to correct time…it is extremely important!

· Parking will be in the front parking lot, the bus loop area, or the car rider lane on Malcomb Drive.  Please stay within the SOLID line on Malcomb Drive.

· If you park out front or in the bus loop area, look for signs indicating your child’s grade level.  There you will find their teacher’s name and room number.  We will also have signs as well as staff members assisting to guide you in the right direction

· If you park in the car rider line on Malcomb Drive, you may enter through the marked door of the cafeteria.

· Again, there will be signs indicating your child’s grade level, teacher’s name and room number as well as staff members available to assist you.

· Car rider tags, bus information, Parent Portal, and Kid Care will also be in the cafeteria.

· ALL registration will take place in the Media Center.

· Our front office will be locked, therefore, you will enter through the open gates where you find your student’s class list.

· Medications will be turned in to Mrs. Mustafa via the clinic entrance by the Media Center.

· Again, there will be signage and staff members to guide you along the way.

School Shirts · SHIRTS will be sold during orientation from 8:00 – 12:00 in the cafeteria.

· All shirts cost $8.00 with the exception of tie dye shirts which are $12.00

· You may pay with CASH or Check…no cards!

· Shirts may also be purchased in the front office next

  • 7:55 – 2:50
 

 

· Kindergarten drop off will be 7:20-7:30 for the first week.  Kindergarten siblings will be allowed to be dropped off at that time as well.

· First – Fifth grade drop off will be 7:30-7:55.

· Car rider gate will close promptly @ 7:55 each morning.

·If students miss the 7:55 gate, they are to enter the school grounds via front parking lot and must be escorted by a parent into the front office.

·Since the tardy bell rings at 8:00, students are expected to be in their classrooms ready to learn when it rings.

·Parents will not be allowed to be on campus for drop off/pick up, or lunches.

· Students will receive a grab and go breakfast or report directly to their classrooms.

· Kindergarten students with NO siblings may be picked up through the car rider line from 2:40 – 2:50

·First – Fifth grade car rider pick up will be from 2:50 – 3:20.

Face Coverings · Masks are OPTIONAL for students and staff.  However, the CDC still recommends  unvaccinated people wear face coverings when social distancing isn’t possible. CDC Guidance for Mask Wearing in School
Social Distancing · In the classroom we will be adhering to social distancing as feasible, when possible.

· Grades 3-5 will continue to switch classes for their different subjects.

·Regular specials schedule (Art, Music, PE) will follow the CDC/PCPS guidelines.

·Students will not be allowed to share supplies and will be required to have a pencil pouch for their own supplies.

Temperature Screenings · All staff, students and stakeholders coming to campus should still conduct a personal screening for COVID 19 symptoms prior to coming on campus. If symptoms are present, they should not come on campus and consult with their primary care provider to see if testing is warranted.

· Temperature screenings will not be conducted when staff, students and stakeholders come on campus unless there are concerns that an individual may be symptomatic.

Campus Circulation

 

· Just as last year, sanitizing stations will be placed throughout the school for student’s frequent use.

· Walking patterns have been established for social distancing.
